1. WHAT INFORMATION DO WE COLLECT?

Personal information you disclose to us

In Short: We collect the information you give us when you create an account and use the Services, and the content you upload.

Account information. When you register, we collect:

Billing information. If you purchase a subscription or credits, our payment processor, Stripe, collects and stores your payment card details. We do not collect or store payment card numbers. We receive from Stripe information needed to manage billing and subscriptions, such as billing status, plan information, transaction and payment-method information, and the card brand and last four digits.

Customer Content. This is the core of what we process: the video, audio, images, and documents you upload, together with the transcripts, analysis, search indexes, and other material we generate from them.

Information collected automatically

In Short: We collect limited technical information needed to operate and secure the Services.

Editing project information. When you use one of our NLE extensions, we may collect project and media metadata, such as project structure, clip information, media references, and file paths, as necessary to connect your editing project with StorySense and provide the Services.

We do not collect precise geolocation data.

2. HOW DO WE PROCESS YOUR INFORMATION?

In Short: We process your information to run the Services, support you, secure the platform, take payment, and improve the product.

We do not use your information for targeted advertising, and we do not use it to make automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you.

3. WHEN AND WITH WHOM DO WE SHARE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION?

In Short: We disclose information to service providers who help us run the Services. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We disclose information to service providers and vendors under contractual terms governing their use and protection of that information. Where they act as our processors or service providers, they process personal information on our behalf and subject to those contractual restrictions.

Category of provider What they receive Purpose
Cloud hosting and storage Customer Content, account data Running the Services and storing your media
Transcription Audio from your media Converting speech to text and separating speakers
AI analysis and generation Video, images, and text from your media Describing, structuring, and generating content
Search and indexing Transcript and analysis text Making your material searchable
Database and authentication Account data, transcripts, analysis Accounts, sign-in, and project data
Payment processing Name, email, payment card details Billing and subscription management
Transactional and marketing email Name, email address Service, account, and marketing messages
Product analytics and error monitoring Usage events, error reports, device and account identifiers Understanding how the Services are used and diagnosing faults
Stock media search Search terms you enter Returning stock footage and image results

Where you use the stock-media search feature, the search term you type is sent to a third-party stock media provider in order to return results. No Customer Content is sent to that provider. A search term may contain personal information if you enter it.

We may also disclose information:

Our infrastructure is configured to store and process information in the United States. Some providers operate globally distributed infrastructure and may process information elsewhere under contractual data protection commitments.

4. DO WE USE COOKIES AND OTHER TRACKING TECHNOLOGIES?

In Short: We use product analytics to understand how the Services are used. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking.

We do not use advertising cookies, retargeting tags, or social media tracking pixels, and we do not engage in cross-context behavioral advertising.

The StorySense application stores an authentication token on your device so that you stay signed in. This is necessary for the Services to function and is not used for advertising.

Product analytics and error monitoring. The StorySense application uses product analytics and error-monitoring tools to record how features are used and to capture crash and error reports. This tells us which parts of the Services are used and where they fail. It is not used for advertising, and it is not shared for advertising purposes.

5. DO WE OFFER ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE-BASED PRODUCTS?

In Short: Yes. AI is central to the Services. We do not use Customer Content to train or fine-tune AI models.

The Services use artificial intelligence to transcribe your media, describe what appears in it, make it searchable, and help you assemble stories from it. We provide these features using the categories of third-party service providers described in Section 3.

The descriptions this analysis produces may include visible or apparent characteristics of people who appear in your footage, and may therefore occasionally include characteristics that are treated as sensitive personal information under applicable law. These descriptions are generated automatically and may be inaccurate. They are not used to identify anyone or to make decisions about anyone.

Training

We do not use Customer Content to train or fine-tune AI models. We use third-party AI and machine-learning providers to process Customer Content in order to provide the Services. We use those providers under terms or configurations that restrict Customer Content from being used to train theirs. Provider retention periods vary by provider, service, and configuration.

Human review. Authorized StorySense personnel and contractors may review Customer Content where reasonably necessary for quality assurance, troubleshooting, security, reliability, and improvement of the Services, including diagnosing faults and investigating support requests. Access is limited to those with a business need and who are subject to confidentiality obligations. Customer Content is not sold, shared for advertising, or used to train or fine-tune AI models. If your agreement with us places additional restrictions on access to Customer Content, that agreement governs.

6. PEOPLE WHO APPEAR IN YOUR FOOTAGE

In Short: Your footage contains other people. You are responsible for having the right to upload it. We process it to provide, support, and improve the Services, as described in Section 5.

Our role. In respect of these individuals, we act on your behalf. We process their images, voices, and words in order to provide the Services to you, and — as described in Section 5 — we may review Customer Content for quality assurance, troubleshooting, security, reliability, and improvement of the Services. Where your agreement with us restricts that further, the agreement governs. Beyond that, we do not sell their information, we do not use biometric information to determine a person's real-world identity, we do not use their information to build profiles for advertising, eligibility decisions, or other unrelated purposes, and we do not use it to market to them or to anyone else.

Your responsibility. You are responsible for having all rights, permissions, consents, releases, and other authorizations required by applicable law in order to upload Customer Content to the Services and have it processed as described in this notice. This includes, where applicable, rights relating to appearance, voice, privacy, publicity, biometric information, and copyright, rights in any underlying material, and any additional requirements that apply to footage involving minors.

We do not determine whether your use of particular Customer Content requires any such consent or authorization, and we do not review or validate the rights associated with material you upload.

If you appear in someone's footage. If you believe media containing you has been uploaded to the Services and you wish to make a request about it, contact us at support@storysense.ai. Because the customer who uploaded the media controls it, we will generally refer your request to that customer and support them in responding.

7. HOW LONG DO WE KEEP YOUR INFORMATION?

In Short: For as long as your account is active, or until you ask us to delete it.

We retain your account information and Customer Content for as long as your account remains active. We do not automatically delete Customer Content after a fixed period. Content stays available to you until you or we delete it.

You may ask us to delete your account or specific content at any time — see Section 15. When you do, we will delete or de-identify the relevant information, except where we are required to retain it for legal, tax, accounting, or security reasons.

Where deletion is not immediately possible because information is held in backup archives, we will isolate it from further processing and delete it when those backups are overwritten in the ordinary course.

Our service providers retain Customer Content for their own operational periods, which vary by provider, service, and configuration.

8. HOW DO WE KEEP YOUR INFORMATION SAFE?

In Short: We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, but no system is perfectly secure.

Customer Content and account data are protected using encryption in transit and at rest, together with access controls, authenticated storage, and contractual protections with our service providers.

However, no transmission over the internet and no storage system can be guaranteed completely secure, and we cannot promise that unauthorized third parties will never defeat our safeguards.

9. DO WE COLLECT INFORMATION FROM MINORS?

In Short: The Services are for adults. We do not knowingly create accounts for anyone under 18.

The Services are intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly permit individuals under 18 to create accounts for or use the Services as account holders, and we do not market the Services to them. If we learn that we have created an account for someone under 18, we will deactivate it and delete the associated information.

This applies to users of the Services. Media uploaded by our customers may contain minors. As set out in Section 6, the customer who uploads that media is responsible for holding the necessary consents and releases, including from a parent or guardian where required.

10. WHAT ARE YOUR PRIVACY RIGHTS?

In Short: You can review, change, or delete your account at any time, and you may have additional rights depending on where you live.

Reviewing and updating your account. You can review and update your account information from within the application at any time.

Withdrawing consent. Where we rely on your consent to process information, you may withdraw it at any time by contacting us. This does not affect processing carried out before you withdrew it.

Opting out of marketing. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in any such email, or by contacting us. We will still send you service messages necessary to administer your account.

Closing your account. You may ask us to close your account and delete your information at any time — see Section 15.

If you have questions about your privacy rights, email support@storysense.ai.

11. CONTROLS FOR DO-NOT-TRACK FEATURES

Most browsers and some operating systems offer a Do-Not-Track ("DNT") setting. No uniform technology standard for recognizing DNT signals has been finalized, and we do not currently respond to DNT signals. Because we do not track users across third-party websites, there is no cross-site tracking on our Services to disable.

California law requires us to disclose how we respond to DNT signals. As stated above, we do not respond to them at this time. Some browsers send a Global Privacy Control signal. Because we do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, there is no opt-out for us to apply.

12. DO UNITED STATES RESIDENTS HAVE SPECIFIC PRIVACY RIGHTS?

In Short: Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of your personal information, as well as other privacy rights.

If an applicable United States state privacy law applies to our processing of your personal information, you may have certain rights, which may include rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of your personal information, and certain rights concerning sensitive personal information. The rights available to you, and the time within which we must respond, depend on the law of your state.

Where an account belongs to an organization, or where Customer Content is controlled by a customer other than you, that customer's instructions govern. This is subject to any retention required for legal, tax, accounting, or security reasons, and to the backup provisions described in Section 7.
